Muay Thai

Muay Thai, known as the “science of eight limbs,” is the national sport and martial art of Thailand, and an effective art for developing superior physical fitness and devastating self-defense.  It is known for its practicality, power, and speed. Additionally, it specializes in powerful kicks and strikes with the knees, elbows and standing grappling. Besides proving itself as the toughest ring sport, Thai boxing is excellent for street self-defense. The training itself is a great workout and develops physical and mental conditioning, along with a "never quit" attitude. Training in the Muay Thai class includes the following elements:

  • Physical conditioning
  • Shadow boxing
  • Heavy bag practice
  • Thai pad and focus mitt training
  • Sparring training

The Francis Fong Academy is a member of the Thai Boxing Association of the U.S.A. (“TBA-USA”).  The TBA-USA, founded in 1968 by Ajarn Chai Sirisute, is the oldest and largest Muay Thai organization in the United States.  Ajarn Chai (Ajarn is Thai for “head instructor”) came to the United States with a vision to spread Muay Thai throughout the world, and he is the first-ever Thai boxing instructor to teach Americans this art.
